Ronnie Deelen is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, educator, musician, curator, and entrepreneur based in London. His work spans visual arts, (sound) design, sculpture, animation, experimental music, motion graphics, and creative education. Experimentation, exploration, collaboration, and cultural exchange are essential to his practice.

Under the moniker Ronnieism, he works on self-initiated illustrations, character designs, and animations, focusing on hand-drawn techniques heavily inspired by nature. As Bleepsworld, he explores sound art, music production, and DIY synth building, often leading workshops that focus on inclusive and accessible approaches to sound-making and building.

Ronnie is the founder of White Noise, an independent record label and event series dedicated to experimental music and interdisciplinary performance. His freelance work as a motion graphics designer includes commercial animation and visual content for clients across creative industries around the world.

Ronnie is an experienced educator and has been teaching at the Royal College of Art since 2015 and at the London College of Communication since 2020, with a focus on communication design, sound design, fine art, and experience design. Central to his teaching is creating a safe and supportive space where students feel confident to thrive and explore creativity in their own way. He is deeply motivated by seeing students gain confidence, discover their own voices, and develop sustainable creative practices.

His animation and motion design practice spans music videos, commercials, and large-scale projects. He often collaborates with other filmmakers and creative teams, and has worked with leading creative agencies on high-profile commissions for global artists and brands. With over 20 years of expertise in Adobe After Effects, Ronnie combines deep technical knowledge with a lifelong drawing practice and a passion for stop-frame and hand-drawn animation.

Outside the studio, Ronnie documents his hikes and explorations through Wildwalkabout, an ongoing project that celebrates the nature and experiences that inspire his artistic process. Through these intersecting practices, Ronnie Deelen builds bridges between disciplines and communities, always seeking new ways to connect ideas, people, and places.

Ronnieism is a project that centers around character design, illustration, music, and animation — all with a positive vibe. It has led to music videos, animations, illustrations, publications, and several live performances across Europe.

The true birth of Ronnieism took place during an Erasmus exchange program at the Belas Artes University in Porto, Portugal. It all began with the purchase of Pictoplasma 2, a book showcasing contemporary character design. Having drawn for most of his life and already worked in character design, this book played a key role in shaping Ronnie’s creative direction.

The graduation project for Ronnie’s MA in Graphic Arts — focusing on character design, animation, and music — was a landmark moment in the development of Ronnieism. Over the following decade, he continued to explore character design, sound design, animation, and music through various self-initiated projects.

In recent years, Ronnie has continued working on character design while also exploring more abstract drawing. His current focus is on nature, and through Ronnieism, he is developing a worldbuilding project that will eventually culminate in an illustrated book — one that still incorporates elements of character design.

The moniker Bleepsworld is used to group Ronnie Deelen’s sound-related work, though all pieces are typically published under his real name. His most recent accomplishment is a 9-meter-long, 3-meter-high sound art sculpture installed in Ziyang, China. His audio installations are heavily inspired by nature and make use of worldbuilding techniques to create sonic landscapes that immerse the audience in sonic worlds just at the edge of reality.

Ronnie Deelen has released two albums, which can be purchased and listened to on Bandcamp. He has performed and exhibited sound-related works and projects at notable venues in London and abroad, such as the Design Museum, Somerset House, Iklectik, Corsica Studios, Katowice Sound Department, Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival, and Sanatorium of Sound Sokołowsko. He has presented sound installations and performances across the Netherlands, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Czechia, and China.

Bleepsworld was created as a place to collect all sound and DIY synth-related projects. Ronnie runs workshops for colleges by invitation and also offers them to commercial companies. He recently led two workshops as an away day for Canva London at Somerset House.

Ronnie Deelen’s commercial practice revolves around motion graphics, compositing, animation, and illustration.

He has directed and animated music videos and commercials, and also frequently works under the creative direction of other filmmakers. Ronnie has collaborated with top agencies including Luke Halls Studio, Quint/Opera, INTRO, and Treatment, contributing to high-profile projects for artists and brands such as Drake, U2, Elton John, Paul Simon, Universal Epic Universe, Frameless London, MTV, BBC, Channel 4, Nike, Jaguar, Moncler and many more.

With over 20 years of experience using Adobe After Effects, Ronnie has extensive hands-on experience using the software across a variety of workflows, tailored to the needs of each project. In addition to his digital work, he has been drawing all his life and is an experienced illustrator, with a strong passion for stop-frame and hand-drawn animation.

Ronnie is a passionate educator with over 10 years of experience in higher education. His interest in education was born from a love of DIY synth electronics, the difficulties faced with self-learning, and the drive to share his knowledge. Community building is an essential aspect of his practice as an educator. He provides his groups with a safe space where anything can be said, thought, and done — this is at the centre of his approach. He allows students to feel safe to experiment and be creative in whatever way feels right to them.

With a broad range of practical experience in many fields — including sound, interaction, sculpture, electronics, coding, animation, video, and illustration — he is able to relate to a wide range of practitioners and projects. For Ronnie, it is important that his students enjoy the experience of learning. His focus is not on the final destination, but on what happens along the way.

His longest and most significant experience in higher education has been, and still is, within the Information Experience Design program at the Royal College of Art. He has been responsible for designing his own elective focused on sound, performance, experimentation, and experimental research methods. He has conducted exams, assessments, and application reviews, as well as worked on the curation and production of final shows and exhibitions at the V&A. He also set up a platform for experimental sound that later became the independent collective and label White Noise. While his main focus has been sound, Ronnie has successfully led students to their degrees through a broad range of projects related to his own artistic practice.

At LCC, Ronnie worked in Graphic and Media Design, where he ran two Sound Labs he designed himself. Within the program, he worked for around three years, collaborating on a variety of briefs ranging from animation to social design and experimental design. The most memorable and impactful of these was the System Hacker project, which he co-led with Tim Hutchinson, resulting in highly experimental approaches, beautiful processes, and significant shifts in students’ thinking and workflows. He currently lectures occasionally in the MAUX program, where he runs various workshops.

Hiking and exploring nature are essential parts of Ronnie’s creative practice. They serve as the starting point for everything he does—a way to find peace, generate new ideas, and gain fresh perspectives on life. Solo thru-hiking is one of his greatest passions; the mental and physical challenges of these journeys leave him eager to take on more. Along the way, Ronnie documents his experiences through field recordings, drawings, voice notes, photos, and videos. Some of this work can be found on the Wild Walkabout Instagram account, while much of it flows into his other creative practices.
